Project Summary

Deforestation is a worldwide phenomenon that affects fauna, flora, water reserves, increases temperature levels and decreases the production of oxygen. It is an environmental problem that has social and economic causes.Happiness forests are an agroforestry arrangement of fine cocoa with tropical native wood that includes food production. It seeks to install 50,000 hectares with 10,000 peasant families by 2040, which dampens environmental impacts as follows: capturing 215,000 tons of CO2 per year, providing 1,490,000 tons of soil-restoration biomass per year, reducing up to 5 degrees ambient temperature in plantation, preventing desertification and deforestation in rural areas and forests with the production of 20 million native trees that generate 6,000 million cubic meters of renewable wood; under a business model that integrates private investors and small and medium farmers, guaranteeing work, decent conditions and permanent resources to the farmer.

Problem Statement

Deforestation is one of the main causes of climate change, generating global concern and motivating different agreements between countries such as: The United Nations framework convention on climate change, the joint declaration of intent DCI (COP 21 PARIS), the international agreement on biological diversity, where specific targets for mitigating climate change are drawn up to 2030. Colombia as a UN member country proposed a strategy to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and in relation to climate change with the following plans: -National Climate Change Adaptation Plan - PNACC. -Colombian Low Carbon Development Strategy - ECDBC. -National Strategy for the Reduction of Emissions due to Deforestation and Forest Degradation - ENREDD +. -National Climate Change Policy and Climate Change Law. -Policy for the Integral Management of Biodiversity and its Ecosystem Services PNGIBSE (MADS, 2012). -Final Peace Agreement. It is an environmental problem that has social and economic causes due to the lack of investment and opportunities in rural areas, illegal logging, expansion of agricultural crops and extensive livestock, illegal crops, illegal mining and unsustainable agriculture. Bosques de Felicidad is a model of sustainable agriculture with leading cocoa product with native wood and food production that contributes significantly to solve the problem of climate impact caused by deforestation and traditional agriculture; linking the farmer, the state and private investors to make the field a profitable business, protecting the environment and biodiversity, which can be scaled to other crops and models such as livestock.

Solution Overview

The sustainable cocoa fund in its forest of happiness model is an agroforestry arrangement of cocoa with tropical native wood that includes food production; seeks to install 50,000 hectares with 10,000 peasant families by 2040 in the departments of Santander, Antioquia and Cauca in Colombia; Cushioning environmental impacts; capturing 215,000 tons of CO2 per year, providing 1,490,000 tons of soil restoration biomass per year, reducing the ambient temperature in plantation by 2 to 5 degrees, damping the scale of desertification and deforestation impact in rural and forest areas due to the production of About 20 million native trees that generate 6,000 million cubic meters of self-renewable wood. All this in a business model that integrates private investors and small and medium farmers. Ensuring work and decent conditions for farmers, permanent and profitable financial resources for the field, production and permanent exploitation of cocoa and wood. During the first 5 years of the project, the first 15,000 hectares of the planned 50,000 hectare cycle will have been installed, benefiting the first 3,000 small and medium-sized farmers, consolidating at least two sub-compartments of the cocoa private capital fund in the agroforestry arrangement of forest forests. happiness. As each behavior of the fund is gradually constituted, the acceptance by the peasants, the government and private investors is measured, in the demand that these generate from new projects scalable over time and in new areas of the national territory.
